About the Role

The Server Support Specialist is responsible for assisting customers with technical issues relating to server hardware or software. This position requires decisiveness under pressure, strong critical thinking skills and willingness to work off-core-hours, when necessary, to deploy/maintain software or upgrade hardware.

Duties include helping customers diagnose technical issues (in person, through messaging platforms, or over the phone) about installing hardware or software in their server environments. The candidate will need to understand system design and architecture, to create cross-platform enterprise solutions to meet requirements for scalability, performance, and availability in dynamic business environments.

In depth knowledge of Windows server is required to provide support in troubleshooting, patching, and hardening these systems. Competence in Linux as well as MS Azure cloud, VMware, MS Hyper-V and hyperconverged environments would be an advantage.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, or the equivalent in experience
  • A minimum of three years’ experience supporting the following server technologies:
    • Windows Server
    • VMware and MS Hyper-V
  • Current certifications around the following would be an asset:
    • VMware VCP – Data Center
    • Microsoft Cloud (Azure, MS365)
    • CompTIA (Server+, Network+, Cloud+, CASP+)
  • Additionally, experience with the following would be an asset:
    • Linux/Unix/AIX
    • MS Azure
    • Hyperconverged Computing Infrastructure
    • Networking and security solutions from Cisco and/or Fortinet
    • Remediation of security vulnerabilities found in penetration testing
  • Ability to analyse and define business needs, and apply the right technology to achieve functional objectives
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including speaking, writing and active listening
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organization skills

Core Functions

  • Design, install and test hardware, software, and network solutions on-premises and in cloud
  • Install configure and troubleshoot Windows virtual machines in bare metal and virtual environments, on-premises and in cloud
  • Collaborate with business development team to ensure that proposed solutions meet requirements and follow best practices for enterprise systems
  • Design systems for load balancing and scalability
  • Acquire and maintain current vendor certifications as directed for the job
